SIMPLE, ORGANIC, REPURPOSED WAYS TO GROW FROM SEED INDOORS

While the cold wind whips around outside your window, you don’t have to wait until April or May to put your green thumb to work. Give your plants a head start by reusing empty eggshells and citrus halves for beautiful, inexpensive and biodegradable seed starting pots. When you’re ready to plant them outside, there’s no need to extract them from their all-natural pots.

Tip

Be careful not to overwater your plants in the citrus half. Too much water pooling at the base will encourage mold.

Starting seeds in these egg shells omits a couple steps from the planting process and is a great way to re-task the shells.

Tip

Use a teaspoon or spray bottle to water the seedlings. Determine amount and frequency based on the specific seed’s needs.

Tip

If you’re like me and tend to overwater, poke a hole in the bottom of the egg shell or citrus half before filling with soil. Use an ice pick, toothpick or pen.
